On July 20, Representatives Colin Allred (TX-32), Joaquin Castro (TX-20) and Marc Veasey (TX-33) led a resolution highlighting the importance of protecting and bolstering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at institutions of higher education. The resolution responds to recent Republican-led attacks on diversity efforts in higher education institutions in Texas and across the country. As of July 2023, 40 pieces of anti-DEI legislation in 22 states have been introduced, including in Texas where Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill into law that bans diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at public colleges across the state.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Solar For All grant program was passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act last Congress, which included the largest-ever investment to fight the climate crisis in history.

Allred Applauds Canadian Solar’s $250 million investment in Mesquite Manufacturing Plant, Creating 1,500 Jobs
Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) released the following statement applauding Canadian Solar’s $250 million investment in building a solar manufacturing plant in Mesquite, which is part of the 32nd District. The plant will create 1,500 jobs and will produce as many as 20,000 solar panels a day. Importantly, this project would not be possible without the financial incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act, which aim to bolster solar energy manufacturing and production.

Allred Announces $103 Million Federal Grant to DART to Modernize Bus Fleet
Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), a Transportation and Infrastructure Committee member, today announced that DART would receive a $103 million Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant to help modernize its bus fleet with low or no-emission buses, replacing about 186 buses. Allred submitted a letter of support to the FTA for this grant, which was made possible because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which Allred championed.

Allred Announces $25 Million Federal Grant to DART to Fund Trail Construction Along Silver Line
Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that DART would receive a $25 million RAISE Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The project will fund the construction of approximately 5.2 miles of shared-use trail including safety treatments, which will be built from Meandering Way in Dallas to Shiloh Road in Plano and will directly connect to several Silver Line rail station platforms. The grant was supported by the North Central Texas Council of Governments.

Allred Introduces Bicameral Legislation to Protect Against Partisan Attacks on U.S. Elections
Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), a former voting rights attorney, led the introduction of the Protecting Election Administration from Interference Act of 2023. This bill would strengthen our democracy by establishing greater safeguards against potential election subversion efforts. It would ensure elections and vote counting are performed fairly, transparently and without partisan influence. The bill expands existing protections against election interference to include the vote counting and certification process and creates stronger standards for preserving election records.

On May 3, U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and U.S. Representative Colin Allred (D-TX) introduced the bicameral Ending Forced Arbitration of Race Discrimination Act, legislation that would end the practice of forcing individuals who have experienced racial discrimination at work into arbitration. The bill would give workers who have been racially discriminated against the choice to go to court rather than be forced into an arbitration proceeding. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) and U.S. Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA) are original cosponsors of the bill.

Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32), a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced a resolution in honor and support of Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, a North Texas resident, a survivor of sexual violence during the war in Kosovo and a human-rights activist. The resolution will call on the United States to monitor efforts by the Government of Serbia to investigate and prosecute cases of sexual violence during the Kosovo war and also devote sufficient resources to empower survivors in Kosovo.
