Washington, D.C. – Congressman Colin Allred (TX-32) today announced that 57 nonprofits and places of worship across Texas received $7.8 million in Nonprofit Security Grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

After the hostage crisis at Congregation Beth Israel last year, Allred led a successful bipartisan effort with Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) urging House Appropriations Committee leaders to provide $360 million in total funding for security grants through FEMA in fiscal year 2022. Ultimately, the program was funded at $305 million in FY23, a substantial increase in funding.

“After the harrowing hostage crisis at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, it was important that we work together in a bipartisan way to expand federal grants to help our houses of worship and nonprofits invest in security to keep folks safe,” said Allred. “I was proud to champion an increase in funding for this FEMA program and I am glad it is making its way to help communities across our state.”
