The legislation also aims to raise awareness about the ongoing suffering endured by 1.5 billion people under communist regimes.
To achieve these goals, the bill tasks the "Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation" with developing a high school civic education curriculum. This curriculum will provide a comparative examination of various political ideologies, highlighting their conflicts with freedom and democracy. It will be adaptable to various courses, such as social studies, government, history, and economics.
In addition to the curriculum, the foundation plans to create an oral history resource called "Portraits in Patriotism." This resource will feature personal stories of individuals impacted by communist ideologies and draw comparisons to the political ideology of the United States. The bill also aims to collaborate with state and local educational leaders to support the implementation of its curriculum and resources in high school settings.
The "Crucial Communism Teaching Act" has gained support from over two dozen House members and has been forwarded to the U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee.
