Jones Named National Player of Week

Dallas College North Lake men's basketball player Darion Jones was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Player of the Week.

A sophomore guard from Austin, Texas, averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game, while shooting .655 from the floor and 63.6 percent from three-point range as North Lake went 2-1 last week. He scored 25 points, shot 8 of 13 for 61.5 percent, grabbed nine boards, and was 6-for-8 from the free throw line in a 76-66 win over NJCAA DI New Mexico Military Institute. Jones had 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting, including 2 of 3 from long range, pulled down nine rebounds, and had five assists and three steals in the home-opening 103-50 victory over Texas Wesleyan Junior Varsity. He finished with 12 points, six boards, two steals, and shot 5 of 6 from the field in a two-point loss at South Plains College.

He is averaging 14.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists and two steals per game, while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent from three-point range.

Ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA DIII national poll, North Lake (4-5) will play at McClennan Community College 6 p.m. Wednesday before hosting Concordia University JV 6 p.m. Thursday.
