Collegiate Academy Delivers Free College to Hundreds in GISD

41

As a unique component of the magnet offerings at Naaman Forest High School and Lakeview Centennial High School, the school's Collegiate Academy works in conjunction with the Dallas College district to provide qualified applicants with a unique academic experience. The Collegiate Academy design satisfies credit requirements for high school graduation while the student also earns an Associate of Arts degree or Associate of Science degree from Dallas College.

The Collegiate Academy features a college curriculum in the structure of the high school environment, allowing students to continue participating in extracurricular activities while they achieve both diplomas. Students earn high school and college credits at the same time.

Dallas College held graduation for students in GISD who earned an associate's degree during their coursework. The Class of 2022 in GISD graduated hundreds of students in this program. One example was Collegiate Academy students who attend Lakeview Centennial High School. Lakeview had a record-breaking 145 ECHS graduates this school year and 960 graduates in the past ten years.

"My heart is so full! In 2012, we had our first class of Collegiate Academy students graduate, and these 47 students were the pioneers of our program. We have made history again with 145 Collegiate Academy graduates," said Maresa Bailey, Principal LCHS.

With rising college costs, the Collegiate Academy in GISD is a gamechanger for students in the program. They can earn two years of college free and graduate from a top-notch college with an associate's degree.

"Let's roughly estimate $20,000 tuition… room… board… textbooks… for two years at a university… that's almost $20,000,000 that our wonderful Lakeview family has saved in college tuition," Lakeview Counselor.

GISD is exceptionally proud of all of our Collegiate Academy graduates. We look forward to following your academic and career pursuits. Collegiate Academy students are #TheGISDEffect

LCHS and NFHS offer the Collegiate Academy High School program and accept ninth-graders who meet program criteria each year. Each school has different requirements.
