The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries will award $500,000 to the Dallas Education Foundation.

The funds have been provided to help the foundation rebuild after the tornadoes that ravaged the region in October of last year. Thomas Jefferson High School, Francisco “Pancho ”Medrano Middle School and Walnut Hill PK-8 will be recipients of the $500,000 in funds for the expanding and updating and diversification of book collections.

“Last fall's tornadoes destroyed part of the Dallas community, including some of the schools where the children of this community study," former First Lady Laura Bush said. "I am delighted that the Laura Bush Foundation will provide assistance to three school libraries affected by the storm. With this grant, these libraries will stock up on new books so that Dallas students can read and learn for many more years."

The foundation, which has awarded more than $16 million to 2,800 schools around the country, is accepting applications for next year. To learn more about the grants, visit the foundation website.
