The Richardson City Council has approved a $287.3 million operating budget for the fiscal year 2020-21.
The budget, which includes an approved tax rate, will go into effect on Oct. 1, according to the city. The 2019-20 operating budget was $1.59 million. This fiscal year's budget decreased by approximately 0.6% from last year's. While the budget decreased, the City Council decided to keep last year's property tax rate and senior tax exemption.
The property tax rate will remain at $0.62516, according to the press release. The senior tax exemption will stay at $100,000.
Much of the decisions made by the city council regarding the budget have been tremendously influenced by the impacts brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The budget focuses on maintaining the progress achieved in the areas of infrastructure and core municipal services while protecting the City’s strong financial position, with an emphasis on road and other repairs, police, fire and parks and recreation amenities," the City of Richardson said in its press release.
