CITY OF ROWLETT: Added 24 New Cases Since Friday

Coronapositive

City of Rowlett issued the following announcement on July 27.

The first chart in this post illustrates confirmed COVID-19 case counts numbers as of 7pm Monday, July 27 - Rowlett has added 24 new cases since Friday. Sadly, we must also share the COVID-19 related passing of an additional Rowlett resident - a woman in her early 80’s.

Of note - the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is now using death certificates in the reporting of COVID-19 related fatalities. DSHS previously counted COVID-19 fatalities as they were reported publicly by local and regional health departments after they received a notification and verified the death. A fatality is now counted as due to COVID-19 when the medical certifier, usually a doctor with direct knowledge of the patient, determines COVID-19 directly caused the death. This method does not include deaths of people who had COVID-19 but died of an unrelated cause. The change was reflected in today’s updated State fatality count. Not including today’s 44 newly reported fatalities, the new method increased the total fatality count by 631.

Please continue to stay home and stay safe. Stay vigilant when you must go out - wear your face covering, maintain the six feet of social distancing from others not in your group and, most importantly, wash your hands often. These measures are critical not only to slow the spread and protect people's lives, but also to protect our economy from further closures and to prevent compromising the other health care services we need across the state.

Rowlett will continue to alert the public about any new cases, but will restrict information to age range and gender as it is available to us.
