In partnership with the Catholic Charities of Dallas, the City of Garland is offering emergency assistance to both homeowners with mortgages and renters who are struggling in the midst of the economic crisis created by the response to COVID-19.
According to the city’s website, the Garland Emergency Residential Assistance Program is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The city warns not everyone who fills out an application will receive aid.
To be eligible for relief, applicants must have lived in the city on or before March 1. They cannot have received any other financial aid related to housing from a CARES Act program, and must have a household income that falls below 120% of the median income for the area.
The city’s website details further information about the program, including a breakdown of household incomes that would qualify based on household size.
The partnership is one of several that Garland is exploring as the city seeks to ease the financial burdens area residents are facing in the midst of the global crisis.
