During the first quarter of 2026, Broadmoor Medical Lodge was recognized as the third largest nursing facility in Rockwall County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
Records indicate the facility offered 140 available beds, 13 below the county average for the quarter. Broadmoor Medical Lodge served an average of 85.4 residents throughout that period.
The CMS assigned Broadmoor Medical Lodge an overall rating of 3 out of 5, higher than Texas’ nursing home average score of 2.7.
Throughout the first quarter, Rockwall Nursing Care Center maintained its lead as the county’s largest nursing home with 192 available beds. Beacon Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation followed with 190 beds.
CMS records note that by the close of the first quarter in 2026, Broadmoor Medical Lodge reported no fines or penalties.
Overall, four for-profit nursing homes operated in Rockwall County at this time.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate ongoing growth of America’s older adult population, contrasted by a decrease among younger age groups. From 2020 through 2024, those 65 and older rose by 13%, while the population under 18 fell 1.7%. The doubling of the older adult segment is stark: from 4.9 million in 1920 to above 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 report estimates close to half of this age group, or roughly 28 million individuals, may at some point need long-term services and support. The analysis also predicts more than a third could ultimately require nursing home living.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
