Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne has used her social media platform to criticize Senate Democrats amid an ongoing government shutdown, attributing the stalemate to their refusal to support a continuing resolution (CR) passed by House Republicans.

On October 6, 2025, Van Duyne wrote, “Day 6 of the Democrat shutdown and day 6 of them holding hardworking American people hostage. The Senate Democrats have another opportunity today to join us in passing the clean CR to reopen the government for the American people. Let’s hope they choose to do the right thing.”

Later that day, she posted, “ICYMI – this is why the Democrats have chosen to hold the government hostage. https://t.co/zMcZAhFawt”.

In a subsequent message on October 6, Van Duyne stated, “.@HouseGOP did our job, by passing a clean CR to keep the government open. Democrats have chosen to play games instead of putting the American people first. https://t.co/w72ZrdNlUN”

Beth Van Duyne represents Texas’s 24th congressional district and has secured her seat in three consecutive elections since 2020. In 2024, she defeated Sam Eppler with approximately 60% of the vote; in 2022 and 2020, she prevailed over Jan McDowell and Candace Valenzuela respectively.

The current dispute centers on funding legislation needed to reopen parts of the federal government. A continuing resolution (CR) is a short-term spending bill intended to prevent a lapse in government operations while longer-term appropriations are negotiated.
