Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne, a Republican representative, published a series of posts on October 21, 2025, criticizing Senate Democrats and the Biden administration’s policies on government funding, energy, and immigration.

In a post from October 21, Van Duyne wrote, “For three weeks Democrats in the Senate have been holding the American people and our government hostage. Democrats have voted time and time again to keep the government shut down to give taxpayer-funded handouts to illegal immigrants.”

Beth Van Duyne has represented her district through several election cycles. In 2024, she defeated Sam Eppler with 60.3% of the vote. In previous elections, she also prevailed against Jan McDowell in 2022 and Candace Valenzuela in 2020.
