Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne has used her social media platform to criticize Democrats over what she calls the “Democrat Shutdown,” focusing on federal spending priorities and healthcare policy.

On October 22, 2025, Van Duyne wrote, “The Democrat Shutdown continues. Democrats’ radical $1.5 trillion wish list includes: • Healthcare for illegal immigrants • A $50 billion cut to investments in improving rural healthcare • Billions of dollars to foreign countries for climate projects”.

Later the same day, she posted another message stating, “Day 22 of the Democrat Shutdown — where the Democrats continue to prove they care more about illegal immigrants and giving them free healthcare than about hardworking Americans.”

In a third post on October 22, Van Duyne commented, “At least she’s being honest about it… Democrats would rather burden the American people to pay hundreds of billions of dollars for illegals to get healthcare than prevent the suffering of hardworking America families.”

Beth Van Duyne has represented her district since 2020. She won her first election against Candace Valenzuela by a narrow margin, receiving 48.8% of the vote. In subsequent elections, her victories were more decisive: in 2022, she defeated Jan McDowell with nearly 60% of the vote, and in 2024, she won re-election over Sam Eppler with over 60% of the vote.
