Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne, who represents Texas’s 24th congressional district, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account between November 15 and November 16, 2025. The tweets addressed recent political developments in Washington, state-level licensing practices for commercial drivers, and recognition of a local veteran.
On November 15, Van Duyne criticized the recent government shutdown in Washington. She wrote: “For 43 days, the American people suffered because Democrats in Washington were throwing a tantrum. The longest and dumbest shutdown in U.S. history all for nothing, as it didn’t get them their insane demand of $1.5 trillion in additional spending.”
The following day, she raised concerns about state policies regarding commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs). In her post from November 16, Van Duyne stated: “States handing out CDLs like candy to illegal immigrants are putting lives at risk.
My bill, the Protecting America’s Roads Act, mandates that states will come into compliance with stricter licensing and monitoring standards. If they fail to comply, they will suffer severe”
Later that same day, Van Duyne highlighted her office’s ongoing efforts to recognize military service within her district. She wrote: “Our third 2025 #TX24 Congressional Veteran Commendation recipient is Captain James Palmersheim, United States Army, of Colleyville.
Thank you for your service to our country and continued dedication to veterans and their families, Mr. Palmersheim. We’re honored to extend you”
Beth Van Duyne has represented Texas’s 24th congressional district since first winning election in 2020 against Candace Valenzuela by a narrow margin of just over one percentage point. She subsequently secured reelection in both 2022 and 2024 with wider margins against Jan McDowell and Sam Eppler respectively.
